As: Nate Archibald
Gossip Girl is an American teen drama series based on the book series of the same name written by Cecily von Ziegesar. The series was created by Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, and premiered on The CW on September 19, 2007. Narrated by the omniscient yet unseen blogger “Gossip Girl”, the series revolves around the lives of privileged young adults on Manhattan’s Upper East Side in New York City.
The series begins with the return of Serena van der Woodsen from a mysterious stay at a boarding school in Connecticut. Blair Waldorf, whom creators describe as the queen at the center of their chess game, is a longtime friend and occasional rival of Serena’s, and the Queen Bee of Constance Billard School’s social scene. The story also follows Chuck Bass, the bad boy of the Upper East Side, Nate Archibald, Chuck’s best friend, and other characters of the turbulent Manhattan scene: Dan Humphrey, Nate’s friend and Serena’s on-again, off-again ex; Vanessa Abrams, Dan’s best friend; and Dan’s ambitious sister Jenny Humphrey.
Nathaniel Archibald was born to Howard Archibald, a successful business magnate, and Anne Archibald, a member of the Vanderbilt family. On the surface, Nate seems to be the perfect “Golden Boy” of the Upper East Side. Nate is best friends with Chuck Bass, with whom he attends the elite St. Jude’s School for Boys and shares a deep friendship. Nate has been with girlfriend Blair Waldorf “since kindergarten”. However, ever since childhood he secretly harbors feelings for Blair’s best friend, Serena van der Woodsen who he believes is breathtakingly beautiful but insecure, with whom he shared a sordid one night stand before her departure. Nate’s feelings for Blair are complicated by his ongoing infatuation with Serena and his parents’ determination to keep him on a certain path. Nate attends Columbia University. Nate is the only male main character who has been in involved in some way with all 4 of the female main characters in the show.
